What To Expect

The first appointment:

At your first appointment I will be asking a lot of questions while letting you guide the story of what brings you in to see me. When talking about the pelvis I inquire about details around its functions - the big ones are pee, poop, sex, babies. These intimate details tell me a lot about what may be going on in your pelvis, so as strange as it seems, those are the basics we cover. Don't worry, I've heard and see it all!

After obtaining a history from you, we may or may not have time for me to perform an external exam of your pelvis, looking at symmetry, alignment, tender points and so on. Then I typically will perform an internal examination of the pelvic floor. This is a one finger, no speculum or stirrup, exam to assess the tone, strength, coordination of the muscles in the pelvis. This gives me a lot of information, but is only done based on the comfort of the patient and can be declined or deferred.

Based on my assessment I will make a treatment plan that best suits the patient depending on their needs, we will establish a timeline together and schedule appointments according to this plan.
